Three structural differences separate an EV windshield replacement from a typical sedan windshield replacement. A pickup-truck glass chain or a mobile-only windshield service cannot meet any of these — the install is bigger, the bracket geometry is tighter, and the glass is harder to source.
Every EV windshield we service uses acoustic PVB interlayer — Tesla Model S and Model X, Polestar 2, Hyundai Ioniq 5/6, and Kia EV6/EV9 all use acoustic laminate to suppress road noise inside the cabin (which is otherwise amplified because there is no engine drone to mask it on an EV). The acoustic interlayer cannot tolerate any fold or crease during install — a single sharp bend damages the acoustic bond and the cabin noise floor rises 4–6 dB permanently. We handle the glass through OEM-spec pre-cut handling, no manual folding or A-pillar flex, and the cut pattern matches the OEM template to within 1mm.
Tesla Model Y, Model 3, and Cybertruck use panoramic single-piece windshields with the three-camera Autopilot cluster bracket bonded at the factory — there is no fold-down module or service hatch. Polestar 2 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 use single-piece panoramic roofs that bond to the body structure at the factory — a roof removal has to coordinate with the windshield removal so the structural urethane bead cures correctly. Rivian R1T and R1S use a panoramic single-piece windshield with the Driver+ cluster factory-bonded to the bracket, in the same geometry. We coordinate the install so the bonded glass runs cure correctly — and so the camera cluster datum transfers intact.
Polestar 2 uses OEM-only sourcing — there is no aftermarket Polestar windshield with the bracket flatness tolerance Polestar publishes, and aftermarket substitutes distribute firmware error codes into the ADAS module. Tesla approved vendor codes (FW833, FW867, FW018, and similar) are required for the camera-cluster bracket flatness to fall within the OEM calibration window. Hyundai Ioniq 5/6 and Kia EV6/EV9 OEM-spec glass comes from a tighter supply chain than typical sedans. We order OEM-spec glass with the correct vendor code or OEM-stamped glass, and we confirm the bracket geometry matches your build year before install.
Every EV windshield we service carries one or more camera clusters factory-bonded to the glass — Autopilot cluster on Tesla (Model 3 / Y / S / X / Cybertruck), Driver+ cluster on Rivian (R1T / R1S), Volvo / Polestar Pilot Assist on Polestar 2, SmartSense forward camera on Hyundai Ioniq 5/6, SmartSense forward camera and Highway Driving Assist on Kia EV6/EV9. When we remove the windshield, that camera-cluster datum is broken — physically, geometrically, completely. The OEM published procedure for every one of these brands requires recalibration before the vehicle is driven. There is no manufacturer in this list that allows the camera cluster to remain on its post-install datum and still function safely. Tesla Vision (vision-only since April 2021) does not always illuminate a dashboard warning for a partial miscalibration — Autopilot lane-keeping will track the wrong lane center, FSD lane-change decisions will be made on broken geometry, and Smart Summon will misjudge obstacles using the B-pillar and rear cameras that share the windshield-cluster datum. The same silent failure mode applies to Rivian Driver+, Polestar Pilot Assist, Hyundai Highway Driving Assist, and Kia Highway Driving Assist. Recalibration is not a "nice to have" or an upsell — it is the step that decides whether the ADAS works at all. VA inspection failures, insurance claim denials, and OEM service-center warranty friction all trace to skipped recalibration on EV windshields.
An EV windshield is a panoramic single-piece laminate with the camera-cluster bracket bonded at the factory. The bracket transfers with the glass on Tesla Model 3 / Y / S / X and Cybertruck. No modular camera pod, no fold-down break-wire path, no service-friendly hatch. Model S / X add curved acoustic glass and an IR-reflective coating. Polestar 2 uses a panoramic single-piece windshield with the Volvo / Polestar Pilot Assist cluster factory-bonded. Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 add acoustic laminate plus an IR-reflective coating on most trims. Kia EV6 and EV9 share the SmartSense / Highway Driving Assist cluster geometry with the gas Hyundai / Kia line. Each model requires its own OEM-approved glass vendor code, its own bracket tolerance, and its own urethane / primer / pinch-weld prep procedure.
Every EV we service mounts the windshield-bracket camera cluster at the same point — top-center of the windshield, just below the rearview mirror. Tesla uses a three-camera cluster (main forward, wide-angle forward, narrow forward) plus two B-pillar repeater cameras, two fender cameras, and one rear camera — eight cameras total on 2021+ Model 3 / Y / S / X and Cybertruck. Polestar 2 uses a single forward-facing camera plus a grille-mounted radar, in the Volvo / Polestar Pilot Assist geometry. Rivian R1T and R1S use the Driver+ cluster — eleven cameras total, panoramic single-piece windshield. Hyundai Ioniq 5/6 and Kia EV6/EV9 use the standard SmartSense forward-camera plus grille-radar stack on Highway Driving Assist trims.
Any windshield removal and replacement breaks the factory camera-cluster geometry. For Tesla, the entire cluster datum shifts because the bracket transfers with the glass — any urethane bead inconsistency creates a micro-tilt that propagates to the camera-array angle. For Polestar 2, the Pilot Assist single-camera datum shifts plus the grille-mounted radar loses its mounting reference — both must be re-aimed. For Rivian R1T / R1S, the same panoramic Datum breaks for the eleven-camera Driver+ array. For Hyundai Ioniq 5/6 and Kia EV6/EV9, the SmartSense forward camera plus grille-radar datum both shift. Suspension work or any front-end collision repair invalidates the datum further. EV windshields do not get re-glassed often — typically once per decade per vehicle — and the cost of a missed calibration propagates across every ADAS decision for the next ten years.
Tesla Vision is vision-only on 2021+ vehicles — and does not always illuminate a dashboard warning when the windshield three-camera cluster datum is disturbed, particularly for partial miscalibrations where one of the three cameras is off-axis. Autopilot lane-keeping will track the wrong lane center. FSD lane-change decisions will be made on broken geometry. Smart Summon will misjudge obstacles using the B-pillar and rear cameras that share the windshield-cluster datum. Rivian Driver+ will exhibit the same silent failure mode. Polestar Pilot Assist will fail to track lane centering on I-95 around curves, and the Forward Collision Warning may not engage at the OEM threshold. Hyundai Highway Driving Assist and Kia Highway Driving Assist will appear active on the dashboard but the Adaptive Cruise Control misjudges following distance at highway speed. No fault code is set when this happens — the system appears active.
Every EV windshield ADAS stack uses a windshield camera-cluster datum — but the OEM tooling path and the calibration handoff differ. Tesla Vision and Rivian Driver+ are both vision-only — no front radar — and OEM-specific service-center tooling is required. Polestar Pilot Assist, Hyundai Highway Driving Assist, and Kia Highway Driving Assist use standard OEM-compatible static and dynamic procedures that AGSC-certified independents can perform in-house.

Tesla Vision is vision-only on 2021+ Tesla — no radar to recalibrate, so the entire calibration load is on the windshield three-camera cluster datum plus the B-pillar cameras. OEM service-center tooling is required for the calibration step. Tesla Autopilot and FSD will not operate correctly until that datum is restored. The windshield install half is what we do at our Colonial Heights shop; the calibration half is coordinated with the Tesla Service Center on the same day.
Multi-camera Driver+ cluster on a panoramic single-piece windshield (wide forward, narrow forward) plus B-pillar repeater, fender, and rear cameras. Eleven cameras total on R1T and R1S. Vision-only — no front radar, no lidar.
OEM service-center tooling is required for Rivian Driver+ — Rivian does not sell parts and calibration tooling to independent shops. The windshield install is performed at our shop; the Driver+ calibration is coordinated with the Rivian Service Center for the same documentation chain as Tesla.

Static plus dynamic recalibration required on most Polestar 2 trims; radar re-aim required when radar is equipped. We calibrate in-house with OEM-compatible static and dynamic tooling on Polestar 2.

For Polestar 2, Hyundai Ioniq 5/6, and Kia EV6/EV9 we perform the full installation and ADAS calibration in-house with OEM-compatible static and dynamic tooling.
Before we touch the glass on a Tesla (Model 3 / Y / S / X / Cybertruck) or Rivian (R1T / R1S), we put the vehicle into service mode via the OEM touchscreen or scan-tool command and verify the high-voltage system is isolated per the OEM Service Information procedure. We scan for stored ADAS fault codes and confirm the exact recalibration procedure Tesla, Rivian, Polestar, Hyundai, or Kia specifies for your model year. For Polestar 2, Hyundai Ioniq 5/6, and Kia EV6/EV9 we confirm the static-plus-dynamic procedure and OEM-compatible tooling path.
We install OEM-spec or OEM-approved vendor-code glass with the correct panoramic single-piece bracket geometry. Aftermarket glass without the proper camera-cluster mounting flatness creates alignment errors that no amount of post-install calibration can fully correct. For Tesla models where the camera housing is bonded to the windshield at the factory, we verify the cluster transfer bracket is intact and correctly reseated. Urethane + primer + pinch-weld prep satisfy the OEM Service Information procedure for your specific build year. Acoustic laminate is handled without any fold or crease that would damage the interlayer.
For Tesla (Model 3 / Y / S / X / Cybertruck) and Rivian (R1T / R1S), OEM-specific service-center tooling is required for the windshield cluster plus B-pillar cameras. We coordinate the handoff with the Tesla Service Center or Rivian Service Center — windshield install at our shop, calibration at the OEM service center, documented pre- and post-install scan on both ends. For Polestar 2, Hyundai Ioniq 5/6, and Kia EV6/EV9 we perform the full installation and ADAS calibration in-house with OEM-compatible static and dynamic tooling (Polestar glass is OEM-only sourced from Polestar-supplied stock).
You leave with documented pre- and post-install scan results from our shop — verifying the camera-cluster bracket is intact, the urethane bead pattern is within OEM specification, the pinch-weld prep is clean, and the bracket transfer is correctly reseated. For Tesla and Rivian, the OEM Service Center invoice for the calibration step completes the documentation chain. For Polestar, Hyundai, and Kia EV platforms we calibrate in-house, the same-day handoff applies.
