Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck windshields are panoramic single-piece laminate with the three-camera Autopilot cluster bracket bonded at the factory — no fold-down break-wire path, no modular camera pod, no service-friendly hatch. Model S and Model X use larger curved single-piece glass with acoustic interlayer and IR-reflective coating. Lucid Air uses the "Glass Canopy" — the largest single-piece windshield in production — a low-iron soda-lime laminate with an IR-reflective coating that requires careful handling to preserve optical clarity. Rivian R1T and R1S use a panoramic single-piece windshield with a Driver+ cluster bonded to the bracket. Single-piece panoramic replacement is harder on a Tesla or Lucid than on a typical sedan — the camera-cluster bracket is bonded at the factory with a specific tolerance, the acoustic interlayer cannot tolerate any fold or crease during install, and IR-reflective coatings require low-iron glass handling throughout the cut and the cure.
Every EV we service mounts the windshield-bracket camera cluster at the same point — top-center of the windshield, just below the rearview mirror. Tesla uses a three-camera cluster (main, wide-angle, narrow) plus two B-pillar repeater cameras, two fender cameras, and one rear camera. Lucid Air Glass Canopy hosts the DreamDrive forward-facing camera cluster in the same bracket geometry. Rivian R1T and R1S host the Driver+ cluster on a similar panoramic single-piece windshield. Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E use the BlueCruise hardware stack (single forward camera + radar + driver-monitoring camera). Hyundai Ioniq 5/6 and Kia EV6/EV9 use the SmartSense / Highway Driving Assist stack covered on the Kia / Hyundai ADAS deep page.
Any windshield removal and replacement breaks the factory camera-cluster geometry — for Tesla, Lucid, and Rivian, the entire cluster datum shifts because the bracket transfers with the glass. Any urethane bead inconsistency creates a micro-tilt that propagates to the camera-array angle. Suspension work or any front-end collision repair invalidates the datum further. For Tesla Model S and Model X built before April 2021 the front bumper radar also has to be re-aimed if anything disturbs its mount. EV windshields do not get re-glassed often — typically once per decade per vehicle — and the cost of a missed calibration propagates across every ADAS decision for the next ten years.
Tesla Vision (vision-only since April 2021) does not always illuminate a dashboard warning when the windshield three-camera cluster datum is disturbed — particularly for partial miscalibrations where one of the three cameras is off-axis. Autopilot lane-keeping will track the wrong lane center. FSD lane-change decisions will be made on broken geometry. Smart Summon will misjudge obstacles using the B-pillar and rear cameras because those cameras share the windshield-cluster datum. Rivian Driver+ and Lucid DreamDrive will exhibit the same silent failure mode — no warning, the vehicle just drives slightly off the road model. Hyundai Ioniq 5/6 / Kia EV6/EV9 may or may not illuminate a warning depending on the year. The windshield replacement itself is what we do in-house at Colonial Heights — for the calibration step we coordinate with the OEM service center for Tesla and Rivian, and we calibrate in-house with OEM-compatible tooling for Ford Lightning, Mach-E, Ioniq 5/6, and EV6/EV9.

Three things that pickup-truck glass chains and mobile-only services miss on an EV windshield: (a) high-voltage battery isolation — before any urea or A/C line work near the firewall on a Tesla, Lucid, or Rivian, the technician puts the car in service mode and verifies the high-voltage system is isolated, so a stray urethane bead does not energize a circuit path that AGSC technicians working on a gas Sedan would never see; (b) Tesla-approved glass vendor codes — the camera-cluster bracket is bonded to the glass at the factory to a tight flatness tolerance, and aftermarket glass that does not carry the Tesla vendor code (FW833, FW867, FW018, and similar) falls fractionally outside that bracket tolerance and the ADAS camera cannot be calibrated within OEM spec; (c) urethane + primer + pinch-weld prep that satisfies the Tesla Service Information procedure — the only procedure Tesla honors if the owner later visits a Service Center for a related wind-noise or water-leak concern.
When we remove your Tesla or Lucid panoramic single-piece windshield, the camera-cluster bracket transfers with the glass — or is detached from the glass and must be bonded to the new windshield. Either way, the precise factory datum each manufacturer established at the assembly plant is now broken. The windshield install with the correct bracket geometry, the right Tesla-approved glass vendor code, and the right urethane + primer + pinch-weld prep is what we do in-house at our Colonial Heights shop. The calibration step is then coordinated with the OEM service center for Tesla (Model S/3/X/Y and Cybertruck) and Rivian (R1T/R1S) — most independent shops do not have the OEM-specific tooling, and the manufacturer is the right place for that part. Ford BlueCruise (Lightning / Mach-E) and Hyundai Highway Driving Assist (Ioniq 5/6, EV6/EV9) use standard OEM-compatible static and dynamic procedures that AGSC-certified independents can perform in-house.

OEM service-center tooling is required for Rivian Driver+ — Rivian does not sell parts and calibration tooling to independent shops. The windshield install is performed at our shop; the Driver+ calibration is coordinated with the Rivian Service Center for the same documentation chain as Tesla. Lucid Air DreamDrive uses a similar service-center handoff pattern.

Before we touch the glass on a Tesla (any model year), Lucid Air, or Rivian R1T / R1S, we put the vehicle into service mode and verify the high-voltage system is isolated per the OEM Service Information procedure. We scan for stored ADAS fault codes and confirm the exact recalibration procedure Tesla, Lucid, or Rivian specifies for your model year — including whether the vehicle is the vision-only generation or the pre-April 2021 Tesla Model S / X with front radar. For Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and Hyundai / Kia EV, we confirm the static-and-dynamic procedure and OEM-compatible tooling path.
We install OEM-spec or Tesla-approved vendor-code glass (FW833, FW867, FW018, and similar) with the correct panoramic single-piece bracket geometry.
