Kia ADAS and Hyundai SmartSense are driver-assistance suites built around a single forward-facing camera mounted in a bracket at the top center of the windshield, just below the rearview mirror. The camera reads lane geometry, vehicle position, traffic signs, and obstacles. That geometry is calibrated to within a fraction of a degree at the factory, and the calibration is what makes Highway Driving Assist, Smart Cruise Control, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist react correctly. Windshield replacement breaks that calibration — every time. The camera is now mounted in slightly the wrong spot relative to the road.
Kia and Hyundai share the same general mounting point — a single forward-facing camera in a bracket at the top-center of the windshield, just below the rearview mirror. The same physical location is used across Telluride, Sorento, Sportage, K5, Forte (Kia) and Palisade, Tucson, Santa Fe, Sonata, Elantra, Kona (Hyundai). Newer Kia and Hyundai vehicles (2022+) often add a grille-mounted radar and a bumper-mounted radar that pairs with the windshield camera — the radar module is commonly hidden behind the Hyundai "H" or Kia "K" emblem in the grille.
Any windshield removal and replacement, windshield bracket adjustment, suspension work, front-end collision repair, or wheel-alignment change invalidates the factory calibration. The cameras are pointing in slightly the wrong direction. They will still report data to the ADAS control module, but the data is wrong. On trims equipped with Smart Cruise Control or Highway Driving Assist, the grille-mounted radar also has to be re-aimed if anything disturbs its mounting.
Kia and Hyundai do not always illuminate a dashboard warning when calibration is incorrect — particularly for partial miscalibrations where the camera is only slightly off-axis. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist will brake at the wrong distance or for the wrong target. Lane Following Assist will track the wrong lane center. Smart Cruise Control will pace the wrong lead vehicle. Highway Driving Assist will steer toward the wrong lane center. Driver Attention Warning can become erratic and either lock out the system or fail to alert a drowsy driver. Most drivers will not feel anything is wrong until the system fails to react in an actual emergency.
When we remove your Kia or Hyundai windshield, the forward camera comes with it (or is detached from the glass and must be reattached to the new windshield). Either way, the precise factory geometry Hyundai or Kia established at the assembly plant is now broken. The camera is aligned to a fraction of a degree tolerance. A 0.5 degree error at the camera translates to a lane-line position error of several feet at 100 yards ahead. Static and dynamic calibration — and radar re-aim where radar is equipped — re-teach the camera and radar where straight-ahead is so Highway Driving Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Lane Following Assist, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist react on the road the car actually sees, not a road that is several feet offset from reality.
Every major ADAS suite uses a windshield-mounted camera — but the geometry, the additional sensors, and the calibration procedure all differ. Specialized tooling and per-OEM procedures matter. Generic "ADAS calibration" without model-specific protocol is how calibration gets skipped or done wrong.

Stereo camera pod — two forward-facing cameras in a single bracket at the top-center of the windshield, below the rearview mirror. The pair of cameras calculates depth by comparing two slightly different angles. No radar sensor — the cameras do all the work.
Static target calibration only. Subaru requires the vehicle be placed at a fixed distance from a printed target board, on level ground, with a specific tire pressure and fuel level. Camera-only or camera-plus-radar calibration depending on year and model. AcuraWatch on newer Acuras stacks additional procedures — for example, multiple surround-view cameras if the vehicle is equipped with the 360-degree system. Radar calibration is required when radar is present.
Single-lens forward-facing camera on the windshield plus a millimeter-wave radar sensor mounted behind the grille (and on some models a second radar sensor in the bumper corner). The windshield camera and the grille radar are paired inputs — both feed the pre-collision and cruise-control logic.
Requires both camera and radar calibration after windshield replacement. TSS 3.0 added driver-monitoring camera calibration on some models. Lexus Safety System+ requires both static and dynamic procedures on certain vehicles. Without model-specific protocol, the radar leg of the procedure is the one most often skipped at non-OEM shops.

We also confirm whether your vehicle is equipped with the Driver Attention Warning IR camera that needs its own alignment step.
We install OEM-spec glass with the correct mounting bracket geometry. Aftermarket windshields without the proper bracket flatness create camera alignment errors that no amount of post-install calibration can fully correct. On trims with radar, we also confirm the Hyundai "H" or Kia "K" emblem-mounted radar module is undisturbed and ready for re-aim.
