Toyota Safety Sense and Honda Sensing are sibling driver-assistance suites built around a single-lens forward-facing camera mounted at the top center of the windshield, just below the rearview mirror. The camera reads lane geometry, traffic signs, vehicles ahead, and pedestrians. The radar sits in a different spot on each brand — Toyota behind the grille, Honda hidden behind the front "H" emblem or in a lower-bumper sensor pod on many trims — but the geometry problem is the same on both: the camera and the radar are paired inputs that both feed the pre-collision and cruise-control logic, and those inputs are calibrated to within a fraction of a degree at the factory. What Triggers Recalibration

Any Geometry Change

Any windshield removal and replacement, windshield bracket adjustment, suspension work, front-end collision repair, wheel-alignment change, or anything that moves the grille- or bumper-mounted millimeter-wave radar invalidates the factory calibration. Toyota and Honda do not separately mark which leg was tripped; both OEMs publish the procedure as "recalibrate both whenever the camera is disturbed, and re-aim the radar whenever the bumper or grille area has been disturbed." TSS generation and Honda Sensing trim determine which specific static / dynamic / radar-aim steps apply.

What Breaks If You Skip It

When we remove your Toyota or Honda windshield, the forward camera comes with it (or is detached from the glass and must be reattached to the new windshield). The camera is aligned to a fraction-of-a-degree tolerance — a 0.5° error at the camera translates to a lane-line position error of several feet at 100 yards ahead.
