Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and EyeSight 4.0 Automatic Emergency Steering now operate on incorrect geometry — silently. The cameras see slightly different angles of the road ahead; by comparing the two images in real time, EyeSight calculates depth, lane geometry, vehicle position, and distance to obstacles. EyeSight does not use a radar sensor on most models — the cameras do all the work. That geometry is calibrated to within a fraction of a degree at the factory. Every windshield replacement detaches the camera pod (or the pod comes with the old glass), and the precise bracket-to-glass alignment Subaru established at the assembly plant is now broken. The cameras still power up, the dashboard still shows EyeSight as enabled, but Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and EyeSight 4.0 Automatic Emergency Steering are now operating on incorrect geometry.
Stereo camera pod (two forward-facing cameras in a single bracket) mounted on the windshield itself at the top center, just below the rearview mirror. The same physical location is used across Outback, Forester, Crosstrek, Ascent, Impreza, Legacy, and WRX. The cameras sit just behind the rearview mirror mount — that is what makes EyeSight so sensitive to windshield geometry changes compared with single-lens suites mounted in a thicker bracket (Toyota Safety Sense, Honda Sensing, Ford Co-Pilot360). On 2023+ Outback, Ascent, and Legacy, an additional 360° surround-view camera cluster is built into the windshield mounting area as well.
Any glass removal and replacement, windshield bracket adjustment, suspension work, front-end collision repair, wheel-alignment change, or anything that disturbs the camera-pod-to-glass bond invalidates the factory calibration. The cameras are now pointing in slightly the wrong direction. They will still report data to the EyeSight control module, but the depth and lane geometry data is wrong. Subaru does not separately mark which leg was tripped; the OEM published procedure is to recalibrate both cameras whenever the bracket is disturbed.
Subaru does not always illuminate a dashboard warning when calibration is incorrect — particularly for partial miscalibrations where one of the two cameras is off-axis and the disagreement between them falls within a plausibility window. Pre-Collision Braking will brake at the wrong distance or for the wrong target. Adaptive Cruise Control will pace the wrong lead vehicle or phantom-brake on a clearly clean road. Lane Keep Assist will drift toward the edge of the lane rather than the centerline, and Lane Departure Prevention can engage on a phantom line. EyeSight 4.0 Automatic Emergency Steering will steer based on the wrong lane position. Lead Vehicle Start Alert can fail to fire when the lead car in fact moves. Most drivers will not feel anything is wrong until the system fails to react in an actual emergency.
When we remove your Subaru windshield, the EyeSight stereo camera pod comes with it (or is detached from the glass and must be reattached to the new windshield). Either way, the precise factory geometry Subaru established at the assembly plant is now broken. The cameras are aligned to a fraction-of-a-degree tolerance — a 0.5° error at the camera pod translates to a lane-line position error of several feet at 100 yards ahead, and a depth error of comparable magnitude at the distances Pre-Collision Braking uses. Static target calibration re-teaches both cameras where straight-ahead is so Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise, Lane Keep, and EyeSight 4.0 Automatic Emergency Steering react on the road the car actually sees — not a road that is several feet offset from reality.
A Subaru dealer places the car in a controlled bay at a fixed distance from a printed EyeSight calibration target board, runs the Subaru scan tool through the EyeSight re-learn procedure, and re-aims the stereo camera pod to Subaru tolerance. The target board geometry, the on-board diagnostic pass criteria, and the post-calibration report are all Subaru OEM.

Every windshield-mounted ADAS camera is recalibrated one of two ways. Subaru EyeSight uses static target calibration only — no driving required. No matter the trim (EyeSight, EyeSight 4.0, or EyeSight with DriverFocus driver-monitoring camera), no dynamic road-driven step is part of the OEM published procedure.
Vehicle stays on a level lift, on level ground, in a controlled bay. A Subaru-issued printed target board sits at a precise measured distance and height in front of the car. The scan tool drives both cameras in the EyeSight pod through the stereo re-learn. Result is geometry-precise to Subaru tolerance. No driving required.
A scan tool drives a prescribed road-driving routine at a prescribed speed on well-marked roads while the camera module re-learns where the lane lines and lead vehicles actually are. Required by some other brands (Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 on current trims, Honda Sensing on certain trims, GM Super Cruise trims, Ford Co-Pilot360+ BlueCruise trims) but not by Subaru. Subaru EyeSight does not include a dynamic step in its OEM published procedure.
EyeSight is the only one of these four that uses a stereo camera pod on the windshield itself, and the only one that has no radar sensor. The other three pair a windshield camera with a separate radar (grille, emblem, or bumper pod) and so require radar re-aim as a separate step whenever the camera leg is calibrated. EyeSight's camera-only geometry means one static step covers the whole system — but it also means the cameras are doing all the work, and a marginal calibration is more consequential than on a radar-paired suite.

Single-lens forward-facing windshield camera paired with a front millimeter-wave radar sensor mounted at the front of the vehicle — most commonly hidden behind the Ford grille oval emblem, or in a lower-bumper sensor pod on certain F-150, Bronco, Maverick, and Mustang Mach-E trims. Co-Pilot360+ adds BlueCruise hands-free highway driving using the same camera/radar pair.
Static and dynamic calibration required on most current Co-Pilot360 trims. Front-radar re-aim is a separate required step when Active Cruise Control is equipped. Co-Pilot360+ BlueCruise trims add an extended dynamic calibration step that confirms hands-free driving readiness.

You leave with documented evidence that your EyeSight stereo camera pod is within Subaru tolerance — and AGSC-certified doing it, the same way a Subaru dealer would.
Before we touch the glass, we scan your Subaru for stored EyeSight fault codes and confirm the exact recalibration procedure Subaru publishes for your model year — including which EyeSight generation your vehicle is on (EyeSight, EyeSight 4.0, or EyeSight with DriverFocus) and which target-board geometry Subaru specifies for your trim. We also confirm whether your vehicle has the additional 360° surround-view camera cluster that adds procedure time on 2023+ Outback, Ascent, and Legacy.
We install OEM-spec glass with the correct EyeSight camera-pod mounting bracket geometry. Aftermarket windshields without the proper bracket flatness, the correct frit pattern, or the correct camera-pod boss geometry will introduce stereo alignment errors that no amount of post-install static calibration can fully correct — the cameras may calibrate within tolerance on calibration day and drift under thermal load or road vibration. For EyeSight-equipped Subarus, OEM-spec glass is the safe answer.
EyeSight requires static (target board) calibration — both cameras in the stereo pod, simultaneously. We set up the Subaru EyeSight target at the exact distance Subaru specifies for your model year, verify tire pressure / fuel level / ride height are in Subaru spec, and run the EyeSight calibration procedure through the OEM-compatible scan tool. The dealer-vs-third-party question is moot when tooling and procedure match — what matters is OEM-compatible scan tooling and Subaru published target geometry, both of which we provide.
You leave with a documented pre- and post-calibration report — showing the EyeSight modules passed Subaru tolerance for both cameras in the stereo pod, which generation was calibrated, any add-on cameras that were included (DriverFocus driver-monitoring, 360° surround-view on 2023+ Outback / Ascent / Legacy), and the system status at handoff. This is your evidence that Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and EyeSight 4.0 Automatic Emergency Steering are operating correctly.
